To become an Athletic Trainer you must graduate from an accredited school by the CAATE. At this moment the mimimum requirement required for getting a job is having a bachelors but by the year 2021 it will be changed to having a master's. Classes taken by an Athletic Trainer are health related, nutrition, kinesiology, biomechanics, and exercise physiology courses.
States vary by whether you need to be licensed, certified, registered, or exempt. Illinois requires a license to be an Athletic Trainer.
Athletic Trainers are also required to get 50 CEUs (continue education units) and 10 EBP (evidence based practice) every two years. Upon graduation they must pass the BOC examination to become certified in Athletic Training and also follow their state legislation.
